Confession:
I experienced A LOT of anxious feelings when I was a new mom.
I knew nothing.
For some reason thought if I could grow a baby inside of me, that it made sense I would know intuitively how to keep my babies happy and healthy.
Was I in for a rude awakening!
My first baby spit up all the time and I had to strategically hold her upright at just the right angle to help her keep that breast milk inside after nursing.
Every single time I nursed her she pooped and it went up her back = lots of clothes changes, lots of laundry.
At about 3-weeks old she cried ALL the time for MONTHS. Poor honey. The doctors called it colic. I remember when I told her dad it might last for months and he slid down the wall into a puddle on the floor.
It broke my heart that she didn’t feel good. It broke ME that I didn’t know how to help her.
That cute nursery I designed with the hand painted Winnie the Pooh mural was never used because the only way she would sleep is if I put her in her car seat, on the floor, and rocked it with my foot. And yes, I somehow figured out how to sleep while rocking her car seat.
Things I wish someone had told me:
- It’s ok to ask for help
- Consider finding a Gillespie Approach–Craniosacral Fascial Therapist
- Look at your diet more closely as a nursing mom
Things I would tell younger, new mom me:
- Find a Naturopathic Doctor
- Find a Blair Technique Chiropractor
- Find a Gillespie Approach-Cranio Fascial Therapist
- Hire someone to help for a couple hours so you can sleep
- It’s OK that she is sleeping in her car seat
- Leave the dirty dishes in the sink
- The cutesy baby announcements can wait
