I made a promise to these plants. Last year I re I made a promise to these plants. Last year I renovated the house and I would walk these fields and see these beautiful plants offering up flowers with no care at all. I made them a promise on a daily basis that in 2025 I would take care of them. I believe they have not received care since 2021. Today I started pulling out grass between plants so the water we provide goes to the plants that flower. I don’t feel like we got very far today and at this point it’s really important to focus on progress over perfection. It’s time! It’s time to get seeds in dirt int It’s time! It’s time to get seeds in dirt into the sprout house, so when there is reduced frost danger, we can get them into our fields. After meeting with the flower shop last week, we selected our seeds and got to planting. This is three days of work, believe it or not. We selected 19 varieties and I got 16 of them planted and in the sprout house. 3 are on the way in the mail. Now the waiting begins. Bagheera feels like I need to take a break. I can’t get up. I might’ve said a bad word when I saw how small I might’ve said a bad word when I saw how small these seeds were. 😆 And I’m committed to get seeds and trays. So I grabbed my tweezers persevered and planted 105 of them. 🤪 I started a bunch of sweet peas yesterday also. Homemade cheesecake It’s been at least 20 years Homemade cheesecake It’s been at least 20 years since I made a cheesecake in my spring for pan. When we were in Arizona, Eric and I were going to go to a food truck that offered cheesecake, then we found out that we were going to be too late. I promised him I’d make one when we got home. I made this cheesecake yesterday and it’s been chilling for about 24 hours. I was so happy that the sides released and it seems to be firm all the way through. I’ll be making a fresh raspberry sauce to top it with and we might have a light dinner just so we can thoroughly enjoy this cheesecake. What’s your favorite topping for a cheesecake? The roof blew off this small barn in May of last y The roof blew off this small barn in May of last year, right after we bought the farm. I let it sit around because an unnamed person wanted to repurpose it. 😆 That hasn’t happened and it’s been 10 months. Today I was done looking at it so it’s cleanup day. It’s so satisfying to see that plastic bagged and moved away. Once upon a time flowers grew here. As I raked away the duff, I could see rich soil and lots of opportunity. Is there anyone in your life that looks at the bac Is there anyone in your life that looks at the back of your work before they look at the front? I vaguely remember a grandmother of mine looking at the back of my cross stitch work before looking at the front, many years ago. This one block wonder quilt is definitely more challenging than the quilt patterns I have worked with so far. I might be 15% done at this point. 😆 It’s a good thing that I chose a panel with so many vibrant colors in it - because working with it holds my interest. Elevate your leftover potato soup! I accidentally Elevate your leftover potato soup! I accidentally discovered this. I took one serving of some leftover potato soup, and I placed it in my Green Pan, the small size I used to cook eggs, on low temp. I covered it with a lid and left it to slowly warm up and checked on it occasionally. Once it was simmering, I noticed it was building this really beautiful, yummy, golden crust. I let it continue to cook at a low temperature thinking more crust is better right? I added a couple slices of cheddar cheese as I let it finish. It easily came out of the Green Pan like an omelette and I let it fold over itself. I added chives and salt and pepper. Isn’t it gorgeous, and deliciously inviting? This is a new favorite. The words for today are “water diversion.” In The words for today are “water diversion.” In the fall, Steve and I used our tractor to put in a French drain to divert water into our south pasture, where previously the water was washing out the driveway. It’s working! I did a little bit of water diversion work on the road to keep it traveling down the road and not down the driveway. I cleared off snow on the French drain to help it to be more efficient. For the other end of the driveway I created a small ditch to divert water that may get through the minor trenching I did on the road. It was a beautiful day to be outside in the sunshine. Feeling blessed at our fixer-upper on the flower farm. Oh, and Gryff was a big help. Our son asked me to add an inseam from a lighter p Our son asked me to add an inseam from a lighter pair of jeans to a darker pair of jeans to make them roomier. Essentially splicing them together. He thrifted both. It looks pretty good, and hopefully they’re comfortable and he’ll actually wear them. Essentially, I cut the inseam out of the darker pair of jeans as narrowly as I could. Then I went as wide as I could cutting the inseam out of the lighter pair of jeans. The restriction came in the crotch area of the pants. Then I sewed them together, trying very carefully to match up the inseam in the crotch, and also thehemline. After he tried them out and we found out that they did fit, I did a zigzag stitch so that the new seams would not fray and would be stronger. The guy at the store sold me this fabric instead, which is like fabric graph paper. I spent a couple hours this afternoon, pressing and sewing, and adding grommets and I now have a 6‘ x 9‘ quilt design wall. Woo hoo! Learning something new! At our quilt retreat we l Learning something new! At our quilt retreat we learned the beginning steps to create a One Block Wonder quilt. The hexagons remind me of a kaleidoscope. Isn’t this fairy panel sweet?! Start by purchasing 7 Panels. One to be incorporated into the top and 6 to be aligned for making the hexagon blocks. To make one you place 6 layers of the same fabric on top of each other lining up the patterns exactly, and then cut them into triangles then sew each group of 6 triangles together into a hexagon.
